What the sources say
GitHub's changelog of 15 Oct 2026 says it will deprecate Claude Opus 4.8, Claude Opus 5 and GPT-5.6 Terra across all Copilot experiences on 16 Nov 2026. Suggested alternatives: Claude Opus 5.5 for both Opus models, and GPT-6.1 Sol or GPT-6 Luna for GPT-5.6 Terra. Claude Opus 4.8 stays available to individual Copilot subscribers on annual plans. For Copilot Enterprise and Business, the alternatives are enabled automatically unless an admin turned off the global default or disabled the model.
